Cleopatra Style

My inspirations come from all types of sources: art, design, architecture, organic and of course historic sources.  The designs I develop might be the intersection of a source from an exhibition with a materials experiment I have been working with.

Shibori Hand Pleating

This series of “ideation” sketches came from experiments with a particular kind of Shibori hand pleat that I had been working with.  It always reminded me of the wide Egyptian collars I had seen in museum collections.

I saw this piece as the focus of the garment and wanted to see what it would look like if it was put in different places on the body.

You can see more in depth explorations of this idea in my regular article series “Inspired by Design” for Belle Armoire Magazine.  Look for the expanded version of this post in the November 2010 issue.
